Course Competencies
  1. Integrate strategies that support wood turning safe practices and facility health policies.
  2. Identify the components of a quality wood lathe.
  3. Identify wood stock selection practices.
  4. Distinguish cutting tool operational functions between center spindle turning and bowl faceplate turning.
  5. Incorporate the use of the bandsaw into the initial stages of wood blocks preparation for turning.
  6. Perform cutting tool sharpening procedures.
  7. Differentiate the different chucking systems used in mounting wood blanks for lathe turning.
  8. Prepare the lathe for a bowl turned product.
  9. Produce a wooden bowl turned product using the shop lathe.
  10. Summarize the finished product for design, form, balance, and the marketplace.
